The Gunpla Shopping Experience in Hong Kong: A Tourist's Guide
During my recent trip to Hong Kong, I had the chance to indulge in a toy hunter’s dream come trueexploring the city's vast selection of Gunpla kits. While I went there mnly for relaxation and gastronomic adventures with my girlfri, little did she know that a whole new universe was just wting for me.
The real highlight of this trip turned out to be my quest for Gunplas, and to my pleasant surprise, Hong Kong revealed an impressive variety of options beyond what I initially anticipated.
Here's the lowdown on where to find the best deals:
Nestled in Mong Kok, Richmond is a four-story mall filled with toy shops that cater to model enthusiasts. Despite its limited space, this spot offers exclusive Gunpla finds, such as P-Band and Expo editions. The price tag here is quite favorable, making it an attractive option for collectors looking to fill gaps in their collections.
To access this gem, take the MTR trn to Mong Kok station and exit via Argyle Streetwalk westward about four blocks.
Just around the corner from Richmond Shopping Arcade, you'll find two toy stores packed with Gunpla kits. Keep your eyes peeled for shops that may not be named in this guidethe first store you bump into has a decent selection of classic MG kits and a few other gems.
Continuing strght ahead will lead you to the second shop, which is significantly larger, offering an abundance of Gunpla products at average prices but nothing too extravagant.
Located close to Mong Kok station on Nathan Road, this complex gathers various toy stores together in one place. Sino Centre provides a similar shopping experience as Richmond Shopping Arcade with its mixed selection of Gunplas from different price points.
While the mn focus here see be RC cars and rsoft guns, you'll also find smaller shops carrying an assortment of toys, including Gunpla kits. Check out one or two of these stores to see what catches your eye.
Also known as Toy Street, this area holds a few stalls offering clothing items but don't overlook the toy shops behind them. There are about four to six toy shops selling Gunplas that offer competitive prices, though not cheap by any means.
For the best shopping experience in Hong Kong, plan your visit during mid-morning until late afternoonthe perfect time for browsing and comparing prices across various stores.
The key takeaways from my experience include:
Don't settle on the first store you see.
Be prepared to negotiateprices may be flexible if you know what you want.
Avoid rush hours to avoid crowds.
Feel free to share any other shopping spots I might have missed, and happy Gunpla hunting!
Happy collecting!
